BIOGRAPHY:

MAVOURNEEN TRAINOR

Mavourneen Trainor is originally from Mexico City, Mexico and spent her formative years moving between numerous countries. She received her BFA Degree at Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario in 1983. Since 1985, she has been teaching full time for the Visual Arts Department at Lakehead University at Thunder Bay, Ontario.  Subjects she has taught have included Painting, Design, Computer Art, Web Design, Drawing and Printmaking.

Her art includes painting, mixed media and Digital Art. and is mostly autobiographical, fueled by both her immigration experience, and from living and working in an isolated community.

Mavourneen's one-person show “Mujer”, Acrylic paintings on canvas, was exhibited at the Camino Real Gallery, Club Industriales, Mexico City, Mexico, 1987.  “Mavourneen Recycled”, a mixed media show was exhibited at Definitely Superior in 1995,  “Journey”, a mixed media Exhibition was exhibited at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery in 2003 . In 2004 an exclusively Digital Art Exhibit, also named “Journey” was exhibited at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery  at Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.  “Chambers”, exclusively Digital Art, is her latest one-person show, and was  exhibited at Definitely Superior in 2014.

 Multiple Juried Shows and group in the region also have been a regular part of her exhibition record including: Mexico City, Mexico; Lima, Peru; Caracas, Venezuela; a tour of Great Britain; Kee Lung, Taiwan; Duluth, Minnesota, In Ontario: Oshawa, Toronto, Atikokan, Orillia, Sudbury, London and Thunder Bay Ontario.

Material Assistance Grants from the Ontario Arts Council were rewarded in 2014, 2015, 2004, 2003, 1994, 1992, 1991.

Recent articles Featuring Mavourneen’s art include a feature article in 2014 Spring in the Lakehead University Alumni Magazine, the Walleye Magazine, fall 2014, the Chronicle Journal in 2014 and 1995.
